What to expect
Therapy is a major investment of your time and energy. It is best that you be well informed about what you may expect from your therapist and what will be expected of you.
Your first visit
New clients are initially seen for the purpose of evaluating the nature of their present concerns, discovering the appropriateness of continuing therapy or providing a referral, and recommending the most appropriate type of therapy for you. In this process, your therapist will review with you the reason(s) you are seeking therapy now and a brief history of your problem(s). In most cases, your therapist will also review with you your life story as a way of understanding your concerns within the larger context of your life.
